Attack surface management (ASM)

Also known as: ASM

Attack surface management (ASM) is the practice of continuously discovering, inventorying, and monitoring the assets that make up an organization's attackable footprint — typically with an emphasis on internet-facing and externally exposed systems that an attacker could find.

ASM answers 'what could an outsider see and target?' It is complementary to an internal model of topology and blast radius: ASM maps the exposed edge, while a digital twin models the internal structure and the business impact of a compromise once an attacker is inside.
